Agenda Item #37
Eau Gallie High School AFJROTC Cadets to Fly in Military Aircraft Stationed at Patrick AFB
The Department of Defense Chief of Staff has approved the use of military aircraft for AFJROTC cadets on a space available basis. It is used not only for incentive flights tied directly to curriculum, but is used as transportation for JROTC field trips, including trips to Puerto Rico. Flying on military aircraft is nothing new to the JROTC program; it is part of the privilege of joining the program, and it is a huge recruitment tool for future cadets. The cadets look forward to this activity. It should be noted that the men and women who fly these military aircraft are parents of students attending Brevard schools. The flight is tentatively scheduled for 17 November, 2009. (PAFB mission requirements may alter flight dates.) Approximately 15 students may participate in this flight, accompanied by the AFJROTC instructor and two additional chaperones. The flight will last 30 minutes and will fly up and down the coast with a fly over at the Shuttle Landing Strip at the Kennedy Space Center. There is no cost to the District. It should also be noted that the aircraft in November would be the C-130 transport aircraft.
