09-08-2011 Final Public Budget Hearing

The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met in special session on Tuesday, September 8, 2011, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in The Eagle newspaper on Thursday, August 11, 2011. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

5. Publicly State the Name of the Taxing Authority and Millage Rates

In compliance with Florida Statute 200.065, Dr. Binggeli read the following into the record:

9. Adjust the Adopted Millage Levy

Authorize the Superintendent to Adjust the adopted millage levy and budget due to changes in the certified tax roll.- PASS

Motion Minutes: 

Mr. Ziegler asked for clarification on the wording "to adjust the adopted millage levy". He asked is that for what the Board is approving now not in the future.

Ms. Preston responded for clarification, that if the tax roll should change by more or less than 3 percent we would adjust the millage accordingly. She also stated that has never happened in her career.

Mr. Ziegler questioned how that would impact the TRIM statement that has already gone out and the taxes collected on it.

Ms. Preston stated that it suppose to be upon the adjournment of the Value Adjustment Board. She noted that she is not aware of any of her counterparts ever being in that situation.

10. Forward the Adopted Millage Levy Resolutions


Motions:
Authorize the Superintendent to forward the adopted millage levy resolutions to the Brevard County Property Appraiser and Tax Collector no later than 30 days following the adjournment of the Value Adjustment Board.- PASS

1.  The adopted budget, millage levy resolutions, certified tax roll, rolled-back rate, proposed millage, and certified copies of advertisements for proposed budget and millage rate to the State Department of Education.

2.  The millage levy resolutions, certified tax roll, rolled-back rate, proposed millage, and certified copies of the advertisements for the budget and millage rate to the Department of Revenue.
