Agenda Item #7
Excellence in Physical Education Award
The mission of the Excellence in Physical Education Award (EPEA) is to recognize quality programs in Brevard Public Schools. Each school applying for EPEA is required to produce a portfolio which is developed by the physical education teacher(s) in conjunction with school-based administration. The portfolio must demonstrate a rigorous and detailed analysis of the physical education program in their school. Portfolios are then reviewed by a committee consisting of experts in the field - current and former EPEA recognized teachers. This committee then recommends those programs that meet predetermined criteria for a site visit. The site visit team is made up of state-wide Health and Physical Education supervisors.
Five out of six applicants (2 renewals and 3 new schools) were recommended for site visits. The site visit included a visual evaluation of the program in action, a walk-through of the site and equipment storage areas, as well as interviews with the principal, parents, teachers, students and physical education staff. At the conclusion of the site visits, three schools were recommended to receive the 2015-2018 Excellence in Physical Education Award and one school for renewal of the 2015-2018 Excellence in Physical Education Award.
The selected schools will be presented with a banner and plaque signifying that they are a recipient of the 2015-2018 Excellence in Physical Education Award. In addition, schools will receive funding to enhance their physical education program. Schools may spend these funds on physical education equipment and/or professional development. Also, each physical education teacher will receive a check for $500.00 and a polo shirt (Brevard Schools Foundation donation) with the Excellence in Physical Education Award designation.
Present the following schools with the 2015-2018 Excellence in Physical Education Award.
