Agenda Item #16

Title
Title I School Improvement Grant

Discussion

The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has released the Request for Applications (RFAs) for the 2014-15 Title I School Improvement Initiative under section 1003(a) of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.  The district's allocation is $289,782. By law, these funds must be used for Title I schools classified as Prevent, Focus, or Priority under the FDOE Differentiated Accountability system. Priority for the use of these funds must be given to the lowest-achieving schools.  The grant application, which must be submitted online, will stipulate that funds are to be spent in support of strategies in individual School Improvement Plans and the District Improvement and Assistance Plan.  Major focus areas are professional development for teachers, instructional coaching, and extended learning opportunities for targeted groups of students.

In order to meet the state deadline, the Superintendent has signed the application.  A copy of the grant application is available online and in the Office of Title I.
