Agenda Item #18
2013 Annual Comprehensive Fire Safety, Casualty Safety, and Sanitation Inspection
Certified Fire Safety Inspectors of the BPS Office of Environmental Health & Safety performed an unannounced annual inspection of each educational facility in the district. Deficiencies noted at each site are re-inspected to assure compliance. Each inspection was performed in conjunction with local/municipal fire authority inspectors.
BPS uses the following Statutes, Administrative Codes, and Industry Standards to establish a process for conducting annual comprehensive fire safety, casualty safety, and sanitation inspections of existing BPS facilities:
Florida Statute 1013.12 - Casualty, Safety, Sanitation, and Fire Safety Standards and Inspection of Property
Florida Administrative Code 69A-58 - Fire Safety in Educational Facilities
Florida Administrative Rule 6A-2.0010 - State Requirements for Educational Facilities (SREF) - Chapter 5, Existing Facilities
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Fire Prevention Code 1 & Life Safety Code 101
An electronic copy of the report is attached. A copy of the Fire Safety portion of this report was submitted to the State Fire Marshal's Office on June 30, 2013 as required by FAC 69A-58.
Similar to last year, PECO Maintenance will not be available in Fiscal Year 2013/2014. Instead, we intend to use $150,000 of budgeted Safety-to-Life Capital Project Funds to correct deficiencies identified in this report and any new deficiencies that are discovered which may be serious in nature. Deficiency prioritization, in combination with bundling like/similar project work, will continue to be an essential component in efficiently completing the infrastructure-type safety deficiencies.
Individual Safety-to-Life projects exceeding $25,000 will be submitted to the Board for approval.
