Agenda Item #7
Excellence in Physical Education Award
The charge for each school applying for the Excellence in Physical Education Award was to produce a portfolio, developed by the physical education teacher(s) with the assistance of administration, which demonstrated a rigorous, descriptive process of the school's physical education program. Portfolios were then reviewed and scored by a committee of current and former EPEA winners. The portfolio review team recommended physical education programs that met the criteria for a site visit.
Two schools out of 5 applicants were recommended for site visits. The site visit team, composed of two out-of-county experts in the field of physical education, conducted a review of each school's portfolio, a visual evaluation of the program in action, a walk-through of the site and equipment storage area, and interviews with the principal and physical education staff. At the conclusion, the site visit team recommended Manatee Elementary School to be the recipient of the 2013-2016 Excellence in Physical Education Award.
To enhance their physical education program, the school has already received a check for $1,000.00, and the physical education teacher received a check for $500.00. The teacher will also receive a padfolio, polo shirt, and business cards with the Excellence in Physical Education Award designation.
Manatee Elementary School will be presented with a banner and a plaque signifying that they are the recipient of the 2013-2016 Excellence in Physical Education Award.
