Agenda Item #25
Application to FL DOE for Access to the Common Core for Exceptional Student Success (ACCESS) Project
The Florida Department of Education has requested that BPS apply for the third year of this discretionary grant through the Florida Department of Education, Division of Public Schools, Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services (BEESS). The grant application is due to the Office of Grants Management (OGM) on or before October 1, 2013.
The ACCESS project is designed to support statewide professional development for teachers in understanding the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as they apply to students with a significant cognitive disability. This project will provide effective instructional planning, supports and strategies; and it will also support teachers in content areas not covered by the CCSS, such as science and social studies. The ACCESS Project will support alternate assessment activities that align instruction and assessment.
When notification is received confirming that Brevard Public Schools has been granted this non-competitive discretional award, our district will continue to serve as the fiscal agent for the ACCESS Project. The budget and program performance period for this project is October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014. The total funding amount is $600,000 for the year. There are no costs to the district associated with this grant. The district will receive the approved indirect costs to house the grant. Finalized budget information will be included as an attachment on the September 24, 2013 consent agenda item.
The ACCESS project and any future amendments to the project are subject to the procedures outlined in the DOE's Project Application and Amendment Procedures for Federal and State Programs (Green Book) and in the General Assurances for Participation in Federal and State Programs (located in the Green Book), which provide an overview of grantor and grantee responsibilities. The attached document contains the application, budget narrative and DOE 100.
It is anticipated that once Brevard Public Schools is awarded this grant, Randy LaRusso, who is currently assigned as Project Manager, will continue in this role.
