Agenda Item #22
Merritt Island High School - Sykes Creek Drainage Project Close Out
The School Board approved a grant agreement in December 2016 with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to eliminate direct stormwater discharge points to Sykes Creek, construct a wet detention pond and replace the football field with artificial turf to reduce pollutant loads. The project was fully funded by a legislative appropriation on a reimbursement basis.
The School Board subsequently approved a construction management contract in an amount not to exceed $1,135,655.75 in May 2017 with Doug Wilson Enterprises, Inc. under their continuing services contract based on a design by Allen Engineering, Inc. under their continuing services contract.
Construction is complete. Reconciliation requested by the District has resulted in a final construction cost (including Owner Direct Purchases) in the amount of $1,087,362.75, which is $48,293 less than the Guaranteed Maximum Price. Because this is a reimbursable grant, there are no savings returned to the District.
Because the construction contract exceeded $1 million, the project was audited by the District's construction auditors. The financial close out is consistent with the audit.
Because the cost of construction is over $300,000, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) requires the Superintendent to sign the Certificate of Final Inspection (OEF-209) following certification by the Engineer/Architect of Record and the Building Official.
Authorize the Superintendent to sign FDOE OEF-209 - Certificate of Final Inspection for the project.
