Agenda Item #35 Title Contracted Services Agreement between Learning Wheels and Sherwood Elementary School Discussion Sherwood Elementary School did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for disadvantaged students in mathematics during the 2008-2009 school year, and only 48 percent of fifth grade students were proficient in science. As part of the effort to improve instruction in these areas, Learning Wheels will present two half-day workshops on two days for 37 teachers. One will cover mathematics, Math: Not a Problem! and one will cover science, Science: The Current Scoop! Teachers in grades K-2 will have their workshops on Thursday, October 22, 2009. Teachers in grades 3-6 will have their workshops on Friday, October 23, 2009. Follow-up activities will include incorporation of strategies gained from the professional development activities into teachers' lessons. Math and science scores from FCAT and District required assessments will be used to measure the effectiveness of the consultant's work with teachers. Recommendation Approve the Contracted Services Agreement with Learning Wheels to provide training for Sherwood Elementary School's regular education, exceptional education and Title 1 teachers on October 22 and October 23, 2009.
