2015-2016 Charter Application Recommendation for Denial or Approval
Brevard Public Schools received three (3) applications for charters to become operational in the 2016-2017 school year: Premier Innovations Career &Technical Education Center, Odyssey Space Coast Academy and Legacy Academy Charter School. In accordance with F.S. 1002.33 a sponsor shall, by majority vote, approve or deny an application not later than sixty (60) days after the application was received by the Office of School Choice. Premier did not grant a 30 day extension for the district to conduct the application review; therefore, it is the only application currently being recommended for denial or approval. Copies of the charter application were distributed to the Charter Application Review Team for the evaluation. After completing a thorough review of the application utilizing the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) evaluation instrument, the Review Team me on August 19, 2015, and August 25, 2015 to discuss the proposal. In addition, the Review Team conducted an interview with the applicant's team on August 25, 2015. The FLDOE evaluation and summary of the recommendation is attached for review prior to the September 8, 2015 Board meeting.
