Title X, Part C Education for Homeless Children and Youth Competitive Grant
The purpose for this item is to recommend acceptance of the 2015-2016 Title X, Part C Education for Homeless Children and Youth Grant. This grant assists Brevard Public Schools in meeting the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Federal Act to uphold the rights of homeless students in the district. The Florida Department of Education Commissioner of Education, Pam Stewart, approved this project on August 3, 2015. The grant award of $100,000 will provide: (1) case management through contracted services; (2) necessary supports for homeless students to fully participate in school, such as school supplies, lap top computers, dues/fees for vocational programs and dual enrollment, and clothing needs; (3) supplementary transportation costs; (4) assistance with accessing health care needs; (5) a contribution toward the salary and fringe of the district homeless liaison and, (6) travel costs for the district liaison to attend required meetings, including state level conferences on homelessness. A copy of the 2015-2016 Title X, Part C Education for Homeless Children and Youth competitive grant will be available in the Office of Students At Risk.
