Disability History and Awareness Instruction Weeks
The 2008 Legislature created Section 1003.4205, Florida Statute, Disability History and Awareness Instruction Weeks. Based on this Statute, school districts are to encourage disability history and awareness instruction in all K-12 public schools during the first two weeks in October. The goals of Disability History Awareness and Instruction Weeks are: 1) better treatment of individuals with disabilities; 2) encouragement to individuals with disabilities to develop self-esteem, gain self-pride, obtain employment after postsecondary education, and contribute to their communities; and 3) reaffirm the commitment of equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Adopt the Resolution declaring October 1 - 15, 2015 as Disability History and Awareness Instruction weeks.
