Agenda Item #8
Annual Recognition of District PRISM Scholar Winners
PRISM (Promoting Regional Improvement in Science and Math), is a partnership between public schools and the private sector working together to celebrate the success of science and mathematics in our schools. The PRISM program is designed to serve as an incentive for 7th grade students to participate in challenging science and math classes, clubs and competitions throughout their middle and high school years and involves the identification and selection of the Most Improved and Outstanding science and math students annually from participating school districts throughout Central Florida.
The eight 2009-2010 district winners (the first group in the attachment) were selected from among the school winners. The selection was based on a blind application review process and supporting evidence provided by each student or school. These students will receive a $500.00 savings bond tonight, presented by a PRISM Board representative.
The other students are the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 district winners who have continued to meet the criteria and maintain their status as PRISM scholars. They will also receive a savings bond tonight.
To acknowledge the new and continuing district PRISM Scholar winners.
