Agenda Item #33

Contract with the 95 Percent Group

This contract is a continuation of services provided by the 95 Percent Group over the last four years.  The district has taken a multi-year approach to improving reading instruction in the elementary schools, and this training is integral to that initiative in Title I schools, particularly those identified as in need of improvement under No Child Left Behind (NCLB).  The training includes the following:

  • 2 on-site training meetings for administrators (1/2 day each)
  • 3 days on-site training for reading coaches
  • 2 days on-site training for five schools in Launching Intervention Groups (grades K-3), which also supports the district implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI)
  • 4 days on-site training in Demystifying Multi-syllable Words (grades 3-6)
  • Ongoing management and oversight by the company's Manager of Consulting Services
  • Follow-up visits to schools (30 days on-site) by trainers to support implementation
  • Regular e-mail and phone support for schools throughout the year, including data analysis

The total cost of these services is $85,875 which includes a professional consulting fee of $261.81 per hour for the 41 days detailed above ($261.81 x 41 x 8 hours a day = $85,875).  Also included in the contract is $29,300 for training materials and travel expenses.

The 95 Percent Group material is copyrighted, and there is no other company that provides comparable training in this area.  The district has been well satisfied with the services provided to date as evidenced by feedback from principals, reading coaches, teachers and the positive impact on reading instruction.

Approve the contract between Title I and the 95 Percent Group for professional development services in the amount of $115,175.
