Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant
On April 9, 2013, the Office of Middle School Programs requested and received permission to write and submit an application for the 2013-2016 Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant. Dr. Binggeli was notified on September 30, 2013, that BPS was awarded the grant by the US Department of Education. The PEP grant provides grants to local educational agencies to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Brevard schools will address the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for physical education and health by undertaking activities including increased instruction in nutrition, instruction of cognitive concepts about motor skills and physical fitness that support lifelong health; as well as development of a fitness assessment database to collect and analyze student data. funding will also be used to increase opportunities for professional development for teachers of physical education and/or health to stay abreast of the latest research, issues, and trends.
The PEP grant has a matching requirement of 90% of the total cost of the project in the first year and no more than 75% of the total cost of the project in each subsequent year.
Approve the acceptance and implementation of the 2013-2016 Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant.
