Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) Grant

Discussion

Brevard Public Schools is the recipient of the 2013-16 Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grant award.  The grant is to provide innovative and challenging programs for students attending McNair Magnet Middle School, Golfview Elementary Magnet, Stone Magnet Middle School and Palm Bay Magnet High School.  The grant will support the implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M) theme at these four (4) schools.

The purpose of the Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) is to support the development and implementation of magnet schools that reduce, eliminate, or prevent minority group isolation.  The 2013-2016 MSAP application published by the United States Department of Education-Office of Innovation and Improvement, was awarded funding on September 25, 2013.

The proposed grant budget may total up to $4 million per year for three years based on performance outcomes.  At this time, the first year budget has been released as $3,999,747.  No match of district funds is required.  A copy of the MSAP grant application is available in the Office of School Choice.



Recommendation
Approve the acceptance and implementation of the 2013-2016 MSAP grant award.
