Agenda Item #37

Title
Titusville High School NJROTC trip to Parris Island, SC

Discussion
Titusville High School NJROTC Unit request permission to conduct a field trip to South Carolina to visit the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island.  Cadets will receive instruction concerning the making of Marines and the enlisted track of military service.  Cadets will also receive instruction on Navy Ships and Aircraft.  Throughout the experience, cadets will gain a better understanding of what it means to serve and protect our country.  Cadets will write a post field trip report, complete a written test and while on the field trip they will participate in several educational scavenger hunts.  Cadets will have Drill Instructors (DI's) as guides through their stay at Parris Island.  Although not as harsh as real recruit training, the DI's will give each cadet a small taste of what it is like to be a recruit.  All events are supervised by the NJROTC instructors and a cadre of highly trained professional Marine Corps personnel.  Cadets will be allowed to negotiate obstacle courses and other training courses used by the recruits.  During this portion voluntary participation is encouraged.  The cost per student will be capped at $140.00  Students have several fundraising opportunities which makes this trip and all future NJROTC activities virtually free.  There will be fifty (50) students and five (5) fingerprinted chaperones.  Students will travel by Charter bus with an on board restroom.  There will be three (3) missed school days.
