10-09-2018 Head Start and Accountability Updates

The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met for a board workshop Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Eagle newspaper on Thursday, September 27, 2018. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Board members requested to have conversation about iReady metrics and ways to get both the diagnostic and instructional pieces in each school at an upcoming Board Retreat.

5. Head Start Update

DJ Crannell, Coordinator of Elementary Leading and Learning provided an overview of the Head Start presentation to the Board.

  • Head Start Ongoing Progress Monitoring Data
  • 5 Goals: Program year 2018-2019
    • Goal 1: BPSHS will implement Practice Based Coaching to
      support teachers’ use of effective teaching practices that
      lead to positive outcomes for children.
    • Goal 2: BPSHS will partner with the school district
      transportation department to deliver enhanced bus safety
      throughout the boarding/de-boarding process, while on
      field trips and during emergency evacuations.
    • Goal 3: BPSHS will work collaboratively with teaching teams to analyze GOLD student level checkpoint data 3 times each year to ensure continuous improvement in teaching practices, professional development and other program decisions.
    • Goal 4: BPSHS will develop a systematic approach to provide professional development to teachers to improve and enhance differentiated lesson planning/individualized student instruction and to improve cognitive mathematic skills of enrolled children.
    • Goal 5: BPSHS will increase the number of children receiving dental exams.
