2014-2015 Charter Application Recommended for Approval
Brevard Public Schools received three (3) applications for charter schools to become operational in the 2014-2015 school year:
In accordance to Section 1002.33(6), F.S., a sponsor shall by majority vote approve or deny an application no later than sixty (60) days after the application was received by the Office of Charter & Choice Schooling. All three charter applicants granted the District a thirty (30) day extension to conduct a "quality" charter application review.
Copies of the charter applications were distributed to the Charter Application Review Team for evaluation. After completing a thorough review of each charter application, utilizing the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) evaluation instrument, the Review Team met on September 13, 2013 to discuss the proposals. In addition, the Review Team conducted interviews with all three of the applicants on September 12, 2013.
Premier Innovation Career and Technical Academy and Legacy Academy Charter withdrew their charter applications.
A summary of the recommendations as well as the supporting documents will be provided to Board Members prior to the October 8, 2013 Board meeting.
