Agenda Item #21
Automatic External Defibrillator Replacement Program
The School District has 138 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED). Of those, 136 are out of warranty / beyond their useful life. Additionally, there are three District facilities that currently do not have an AED. Pediatric pad kits are required at 64 locations.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office has over 700 Cardiac Science PowerHeart G-5 Fully Automatic Dual Language AEDs. Because of the large number of units, they qualify for the "Platinum Level" discount from the NASPO SW 300 Government Contract. Prior to leaving her position as the Director of District and School Security, Major Moros negotiated the same discount for Brevard Public Schools as a "piggyback" to the Sheriff's contract.
Note that Cardiac Science has a trade-in program that provides one PowerHeart G-5 AED at no cost for every 10 working AEDs that are traded in. Assuming that at least 90 of the 136 units being replaced meet the trade-in requirements, only 130 units (of the 139 required) are being ordered. Any additional units received will be kept as replacements or deployed as appropriate.
Because Administrative Procedure 8452 requires a specific AED (Medtronic Physio-Control Lifepack CR Plus), the Procedure will be updated to a performance specification equivalent to the Cardiac Science PowerHeart G-5 unit.
Approve the issuance of a purchase order to Cardiac Science under a "piggyback" to the NASPO SW 300 Government Contract in the amount of $167,300.00 for 130 PowerHeart G-5 Fully Automatic Dual Language AED and 64 G-5 Pediatric Pad Kits.
