Agenda Item #22
Teaching American History Grant Weekend Scholar Visit Inservices
Dr. Charles Errico will provide two Weekend Scholar Visits focusing on the history of 19th Century America (especially Westward Expansion, Antebellum period, and the Civil War) for 30 K-12 teachers in association with Brevard County's Teaching American History Grant (2009-2012). These inservices will focus on improving content knowledge, using sources, and reflecting on teaching practices to improve effectiveness in US History instruction. The cost for Dr. Errico's presentations will be $3,500.00 for each weekend, which includes preparation time, setup, presentations, and Q & A with teachers. Dr. Errico will be responsible for his own travel costs from Northern Virginia. He has over 35 years of experience teaching adult learners and significant experience teaching elementary and secondary history teachers in other Teaching American History Grants around the country. He was involved in previous TAH Grant colloquia with Brevard, during which he developed a collegial relationship with members of our three-year TAH Grant cohort. Each weekend inservice will be 8 hours long. These inservices are funded through the Teaching American History Grant.
Approve the agreement with Dr. Charles J. Errico for two inservices for the Teaching American History Grant.
