Melbourne High School Crew Team Trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee


The Melbourne High School Crew Team is requesting School Board approval to participate in the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on November 3-7, 2011.  The team has been traveling to a big fall race for the last 16 years to compete against some of the best schools in the southeast.

Approximately 50 students, five (5) chaperones and two (2) coaches plan to travel by charter bus to Chattanooga, TN.  They plan to leave Melbourne High School at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2011, and arrive at the Head of the Hooch practice site at approximately 12:00 noon on Friday, November 4.  The group will stay at the Country Inn and Suites in Chattanooga for two nights.  The races will be held on Saturday, November 5, and Sunday, November 6.  The group will depart Chattanooga at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.  It is anticipated that the group will arrive back at Melbourne High School at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7.  One (1) day of school will be missed (Friday, November 4).

The cost of $250 per student will cover transportation, hotel room for two nights, and food.  Yearbook/Calendar ad sales and car wash ticket sales will allow crew embers to raise funds for this trip.  There will be no cost to the District.

Approve the field trip request by the Melbourne High School Crew Team to travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, on November 3-7, 2011, to participate in the Head of the Hooch Regatta.
