Field Trip for the Satellite High Symphonic Orchestra to perform in Chicago, IL

The Satellite High School Symphonic Orchestra has been invited to perform at the 64th Annual Midwest International Band and Orchestra clinic that takes place from December 14-18, 2010 in Chicago, IL.  The orchestra is among only  forty (40) public high school symphony orchestras to be invited this year out of over two-hundred (200) applicants.  The group will be performing a forty-five (45) minute concert which includes recently composed works, pieces written specifically for the orchestra, and classical master works.  The conference is primarily educational and is attended by about 15,000 music educators, publishers, instrument makers, administrators, and professional musicians each year.  The cost per student will be $900.00  The actual cost per student will vary dependent on participation in fund raising projects.  Some students will choose to participate and other parents/guardian will choose to fund their student.  Payment schedules have been developed as needed.  The booster club assists those in need of financial support.  No one is denied participation for financial reasons.  An invitation to this conference is considered the "highest" honor that can be awarded to a high school or college music group, and brings international notoriety to the ensemble and its community.  The ensemble includes seventy-three (73) students and will travel with eight chaperones and two directors.  The directors are Satellite High School music teachers Mark Nelson and Mark Sunderland.
