Agenda Item #34
Brevard Adult & Community Education GED Tests Age Waiver
Adult & Community Education administrators frequently work with students who are 16 or 17 and have completed the GED preparatory course with promising scores on the Official Practice Test. With the current restrictions on waivers, many students each year are unable to take the GED test and move on to higher education, improved employment, or enlistment in the armed services, because they do not qualify for the existing exceptions.
This recommendation would continue the age waiver to allow students who are at least 16, score 450 or higher on all parts of the Official Practice Test to indicate success on the GED, and meet the circumstances of employment, child care, or health conditions. It would also allow students who are 17, have met all requirements of the adult education program, including scoring 450 or higher on all parts of the Official Practice Test, to take the GED, with the recommendation of their local administrator and the Director of Adult & Community Education.
Approve the changes as outlined for the GED Age Waiver.
