Acceptance of the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Secure Our Schools (COPS-SOS) Grant For Installation of Video Surveillance Security Systems at Cocoa, Bayside and Palm Bay High Schools
Our Grant Writing Team submitted a Grant request to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Save Our Schools (COPS - SOS) Grant on April 21, 2010 for the installation of Video Surveillance Security systems at three (3) Secondary Schools ie. Cocoa, Bayside & Palm Bay High Schools. On September 29, 2010 we were notified that the District will receive a Grant in the amount of $190,985.00.
The Grant Team consisted of Dr. Sherry Meaders, Grant Writer, Tom Fitzgerald, Network Engineer, Walt Petters, Director of Plant Operations/Maintenance and Andrea E. Alford, Director, Office of District and School Security. The Grant is a 50/50 Matching Grant & School District Matching funds are available in Project #305961 due to an under run in the Re-Roofing Project that was successfully completed at Cocoa High School and FY 10/11 PECO Life Safety Funds. A copy of the Grant and Award Notification is attached for reference. Walt Petters has accepted the Project Management responsibility for the successful completion of this project. The work will be completed by sub-contractors presently under continuing contract with the District and District staff, as necessary. A Project Management Plan and Schedule will be presented to the Board prior to the October 26, 2010 Board Meeting.
Authorize the Facilities Maintenance Department under the leadership of Walt Petters, Director of Plant Operations/Maintenance, to complete all work associated with the installation of Video Surveillance Systems at Cocoa, Bayside and Palm Bay High Schools in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Save Our Schools (COPS - SOS) Grant at the cost not to exceed $381,970.00.
