Agenda Item #9

Title
Healthy School District Award

Discussion
The Florida Healthy School District Award is provided by the Florida Coordinated School Health Partnership and Florida Action for Healthy Kids. Experts from state agencies, school districts, and community partners created the award criteria to assist and motivate districts to achieve the highest standards in infrastructure and the eight component areas of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Coordinated School Health (CSH) model. This model provides an effective approach for schools to address student and staff health and wellness through the following eight component areas: - Health Education - Health Services - Healthy School Environment - Physical Education - Nutrition Services and Education - Counseling/Psychological/Social Services - Health Promotion for Staff - Family/Community Involvement The Healthy District Self-Assessment tool was developed to help school districts assess existing policies and practices and guide them toward achieving the highest standards. For the first time, Brevard Public Schools has been awarded the Gold Level as a Florida Healthy School District.
