Agenda Item #50

Title
Field Trip - Satellite High Auto Tech - Quaker State Best In Class Challenge in Austin, TX

Discussion
Satellite High Auto Tech is one of the top five high schools in the Nation to receive the honor of competing in the Quaker State Best in Class Challenge. The nationwide challenge calls for automotive students to customize a pre-owned car into a “showroom-ready, creative representation of their school.”  Satellite’s car came from dealership in Orlando.  The Impala is valued at around $3,000 and each school participating across the nation will be given a similar vehicle to revamp.  The top three schools will go to the Mecum Auto Auction to sell the car and all proceeds will go back to the school. If chosen for this opportunity, four (4) male students will attend with one male teacher and one male A+ Volunteer. They will travel December 9 – 12, 2015 to Austin, Texas to the Mecum Auto Auction. Hotel accommodations will be at LaQuinta Inn, Austin, Texas and include breakfast. Airfare, hotel, lunch, dinner and ground transportation fees total approximately $4,121.00. Quaker State will donate $5,000.00 to cover trip expenses. Students will miss three (3) days of school.

Students will only attend this trip if chosen to be in top three category. This decision will be made November 19, 2015.
