H-9. Field trip - Merritt Island High School Band, New York City

Discussion

The tour will include the American Museum of Natural History and Metropolitan Museum of Art, Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall, Empire State building. The group will also visit: Time Square, Central Park, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, and Little Italy.

 

All travel arrangements are being completed through Academic Travel Services.  Local transportation will be arranged to get the group to and from Orlando International Airport.  The cost per students is $1100.00 and the instrumental music department will be working on fundraiser to raise money to subsidize this amount.  Students who do not have the money to pay for the trip will be given ample opportunities to participate in fund raisers to make the money to take the trip.  No student will be left behind due to inability to pay.  THERE WILL BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.

 



Recommendation

Approve the request for Merritt Island High School Band, consisting of fifty (50) students, two (2) teachers and eight (8) chaperones to go to New York City to attend Broadway performances and the Museum of National History, April 9-12, 2008.  Students will not miss any school.
