Field Trip - Cocoa High School FIRST Robotics - FIRST Buckeye Regional in Cleveland, Ohio and FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas

Discussion

The Cocoa High School Robotics Team, approximately 20 students and three chaperones, plan to travel and attend the FIRST Buckeye Regional on March 26 - April 1, 2018 in Cleveland Ohio, and if they qualify travel and attend the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas on April 16 - 22, 2018.

Chaperones for both events will be one female BPS employee and two male A+ volunteers. The team will travel by plane, charter bus, or rental vans and will be staying at a FIRST authorized hotel closest to each event. Local transportation will be provided by walking, charter bus, or rental van from the hotel to Cleveland State University for the FIRST Buckeye Regional in Cleveland, Ohio and to the George R. Brown Convention Center at the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas.

Students will miss 4 (four) days from school while at the FIRST Buckeye Regional (March 27 - March 30, 2018) and if the team qualifies to travel and participate in the FIRST World Championship they will miss 4 (four) school days from April 17 - 20, 2018.

Both trips will be funded by various approved fund raisers and business partners including NASA Launch Services, Vencore, and Brevard Public Schools. THERE WILL BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.



Recommendation
Approve request for the Cocoa High School Robotics Team, approximately 20 students and three chaperones, to travel and attend the FIRST Buckeye Regional in Cleveland, Ohio on March 26 - April 1, 2018 and if qualified, travel and attend the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas on April 16 - 22, 2018.
