Agenda Item #13
Spotlight on Education
Brevard's schools and students shine in so many areas. In an effort to share as many of the exciting, innovative and excellent programs, activities and/or projects happening in Brevard Public Schools, we will be featuring a different school at each Board meeting (time permitting). We know you will enjoy this presentation as much as we enjoy sharing it with you.
Five years ago, Palm Bay Elementary began a Special Olympics Unified Track team in order to promote the meaningful inclusion of students with intellectual disabilities within the school community. The sports program offers an opportunity for athletes with disabilities to play a variety of sports with their non-disabled peers, build social relationships, and increase self-confidence. The team members are friends both on and off the field. The school-based program has expanded over the past few years to include softball and basketball teams.
