Field Trip - Cocoa High School FIRST Robotics to Participate in the FIRST Midwest Regional in Chicago, Illinois, March 28 - April 2, 2017


The Robotics Team is planning to attend the FIRST Midwest Regional in Chicago, Illinois. Approximately 17-23 students and three adult chaperones will participate in the field Trip.  Three chaperones (both male and female) will accompany the students. One chaperone is a current Brevard Public School employee (Cocoa High Office Clerk and Faculty Advisor for FIRST) and the other two (2) chaperones are Level A Plus volunteers with Brevard Public Schools. The team will travel by plane and leave on the morning of Tuesday, March 28, from Orlando International Airport. They will arrive in Chicago around noon and take an afternoon tour of the Caterpillar plant in Chicago.

The group will be staying at a FIRST authorized hotel closest to the event. Students will be either walking, chartering a bus or renting vans to travel from the hotel to the University of Illinois-Chicago. They will eat at the hotel, nearby restaurants or at event concessions.

Practice Matches will be held on March 30 and Qualifying Matches will be held on March 31 and April 1.  Elimination/Championship Matches will be held on the afternoon of April 1.

The team will depart Chicago Airport on the morning of Sunday, April 2 and arrive at Orlando International Airport late afternoon or evening.

The trip will be funded by various fundraisers and business partners, including NASA Launch Services, Vencore and Brevard Public Schools. There will be no cost to the district.    The students will miss 4 days of school.   

Approve the request for the Cocoa High Robotics Team, to participate in the FIRST Midwest Regional on March 28 through April 2, 2017.
