Merritt Island Band Field Trip to New York, New York, May 24-29, 2017


Approximately 50 student members of the Merritt Island Band are planning to travel to New York, New York on May 24 through May 29. Students will be chaperoned by six adults, two of which are school board employees, and four A+ volunteers.

Kaleidoscope Adventure will coordinate the trip and provide round-trip motor coach transportation, 3 nights' hotel accommodations, 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners, a professional tour director, and all admissions, entrance fees, taxes and most gratuities  Cost per person based on quad occupancy is $1,1104.00.  All money will be raised by the students attending.  There will be no cost to the district.

The group will depart Merritt Island at 5:00 pm. on May 24 for an 18 hour trip via motor coach. They will arrive in New York City and meet the tour director on May 25 at 11:30 a.m. The band will perform at Madison Avenue Atrium for the public on Friday, May 26, 2017. During their stay in New York, band students/chaperones will  tour the 9/11 and Whitney museums, watch Jazz at Birdland, see a Broadway show, and watch the New York Philharmonic. The group plans to sightsee in the city, as well. This will be a musically and culturally enriching opportunity for our students and will give many the opportunity to explore a new city.  

The band students and chaperones will depart New York, NY at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28 and arrive home at 10:00 a.m. on May 29.  Students will not miss any school because this trip is scheduled after exams and during summer vacation.      

Approve the request for the Merritt Island Band to travel to New York, New York on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 through Monday May 29, 2017.
