Agenda Item #12

Title
AVID Program Presentation

Discussion

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an international program with the mission to "ensure that all students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle", succeed in  a rigorous curriculum, complete a rigorous college preparatory path, enter mainstream activities of the school, increase their enrollment in four-year colleges and become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.  Students in nine Brevard Public Schools benefit from this program.  Bob McLaren, Middle School Social Studies and Language Arts Resource Teacher, will share the history of AVID in Brevard Public Schools and will include data showing the success of our AVID students in rigorous courses and college readiness.
