Satellite High School Varsity Cheerleading Trip to New York City for U.S. Championship -- Big Apple Challenge Competition
As past winners and Grand Champions, the Satellite High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad has been invited back to compete in the 2010 National Cheerleading Association and National Dance Association (NCA/NDA) U.S. Championship - Big Apple Cheerleading Competition. The dates of the trip will be March 11 (leaving at 8:30 p.m.) through March 14, 2010. Students will miss one day of school (Friday, March 12, 2010). Thirty four cheerleaders, two coaches, six fingerprinted assistants, and 30 parents and family members will travel to the competition. Thirty three cheerleaders will participate in the competition; one additional cheerleader will accompany the group but will not compete. In addition, the cheerleaders will be using the trip as an educational experience, visiting sites such as the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, and museums on Friday, March 12th, and seeing the Broadway show, Stomp, after the competition on the 13th. The total cost of the trip will be approximately $24,350, which includes hotel, air fare, competition fees, transportation and meals for 34 female cheerleaders and three coaches. Costs are broken down as follows:
Competition fee per student - $125.00
Bus transportation to and from airport for the entire group - $700
Subway pass per student - $15.00
Hotel (Wyndham Garden Hotel, 341 West 36th St., New York NY 10018). Lodging will be for 3 nights (4 students per room) at a cost of $141.75 per student (breakfast included).
The meal allowance for each student is estimated to be $150 per student.
Flights will be booked after board approval has been obtained and is estimated to cost between $139 - $175 per person.
Fund raisers have been planned to help offset costs to all students participating in the trip. Students will be responsible to pay what is not earned in fund raising (not to exceed $300 per student). No part of the trip will be paid for by Satellite High School or the District.
