12-15-2015 Strategy Matters Forum


The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met for for a Board Workshop called "Strategy Matters" on Tuesday, December 15, 1015, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Eagle newspaper on Thursday, December 3, 2015. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

4. School Board Members' Feedback

Minutes: 

The presentation was very well received by Board members and the consensus of the group is that it is time to move forward.  The members stressed that communication is key and that community input is extremely valuable. However, strategic planning is much more than putting something down on paper, it must become a living, breathing document used to guide decisions. 

 

 

5. Public Comments

Minutes: 

Audience members were invited to come forward to one of two standing microphones and share feedback on the presentation just given. They each would have three minutes.  A total of 32 speakers came forward.

Most speakers expressed gratitude for the direction Dr. Blackburn was taking.  Additional comments were made regarding: reinstating corridor bussing, equity in student discipline, vocational centers, testing, teachers knowing whether or not they will have jobs the following year, building trust, proper staffing of ESE programs, lack of accountability, finance, governance, fundamental changes to education, support of bus drivers, and frustration in teaching profession.
