Agenda Item #51
Wild About Birds Consultant for Imperial Estates Elementary
The Wild About Birds Founder, Gina Holt, has been coming to Imperial Estates to present a program to the first grade students for eight (8) years. The program will be held on May 8, 2015. Ms. Holt explains what identifies a predator; outlining their characteristics and attributes which makes them birds of prey. She also brings with her four (4) non-rehabilitative birds; Kestra, Screech Owl, Barred Owl and a Red Shoulder Hawk. The presence of these birds, captures the students' attention helping them to learn first-hand about the bird's habitat and their food chain which compliments their science unit on "living things." She teaches the students not to approach an injured or wild animal due to their instinctual reaction. The first grade team uses funds that are available to them from their walk-a-thon efforts to pay for this special guest.
Approve the Wild About Birds consultant for Imperial Estates Elementary on May 8, 2015.
