MEP Engineering Contract for Ocean Breeze HVAC Replacement

Discussion

Many of the HVAC system components at Ocean Breeze Elementary School have served their useful life and are in need of replacement.  The replacement of these components are identified as a priority in the FY2014-15 Facilities Services Capital Budget and the Sales Surtax Project Priority List.

TLC Engineering for Architecture has submitted a proposal for design services under their Continuing Contract for MEP Engineering in the amount of $74,625 for the design of the HVAC system upgrade.  We anticipate that a Construction Management GMP contract will be submitted for board approval in March, 2015.  Work will be scheduled for summer 2015.

Adequate funding has been identified and budgeted in the FY2014-15 Capital Funds for the design and associated administration costs.  Sales surtax funds will be used for permitting, inspection, construction and contingency costs.

School Board approval is required for Purchase Orders over $25,000.  In order to expedite the work, approval is requested as a consent item with previous information.

Recommendation

Approve a total design budget of $85,000 for the design of the Ocean Breeze Elementary School HVAC Replacement Project.

Approve TLC Engineering for Architecture under their Continuing Contract for MEP Engineering Services for the design of the Ocean Breeze Elementary School HVAC Replacement Project in the amount of $74,625.
