The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met in regular session on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Eagle newspaper on Thursday, December 5, 2019. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Approve the applicable listed administrative staff recommendations:

Accept the appointment of Cynthia A. Lesinski to the position of Chief Financial Officer, on annual contract effective February 10, 2020, with an annual salary of $130,000.

Accept the resignation of Keith A. Schachter from the position of Assistant Principal (10 month) at Palm Bay Magnet High School, effective November 1, 2019.

Accept the retirement of Ena A. Leiba from the position of Principal at Sea Park Elementary School, effective May 31, 2020.

The reclassification/transfer of Gregory M. Rubick from the position of Assistant Principal (12 month) at Bayside High School to the position of Principal at Port Malabar Elementary School, on annual contract, effective January 6, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 26 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program.

The transfer of Kori L. Hurst from the position of Principal at Riviera Elementary School to the position of Principal at Saturn Elementary School, on annual contract, effective January 6, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 26 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program.

The reclassification/transfer of Joseph C. Flora from the position of Principal at James Madison Middle School to the position of Principal at Space Coast Jr/Sr High School, on annual contract, effective January 6, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 29 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program.

Gary Shiffrin, Chair of the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC), presented the annual ICOC report.

Ms. Belford thanked Mr. Shiffrin and all of the committee members.  Dr. Mullins echoed appreciation.

Approve the following (action December 17):


New Viera Area Elementary School will open with no boundary with the exception of Area A. All students would apply under the ELO process ($30 fee and no transportation).

The lottery for attending the new Viera Elementary School will give priority to students currently attending Quest and Manatee in order to relieve overcrowding at these schools.

Grant special consideration for any current student within the new Viera Area Elementary School Area A (affects 3 families, 5 students) to continue to attend Quest Elementary until they complete elementary school under an ELO process ($30 fee and no transportation). These students would not be charged the ELO fee to attend the new Viera Elementary School.

Grant special consideration for rising 6th graders affected by the Sea Park, Pinewood, Mims and Imperial Estates boundary changes may remain at their current school under an ELO process ($30 fee and no transportation).
